Night Magic

Beautiful view of the Bahia de las Animas from one of the hotels in Bocagrande. The Convention Center on the right seems to float on the water. San pedro Claver's dome glows on the left, and we can even make out the little clock tower on the distance.

Convento de Santo Domingo

Quite possibly the oldest building in the city. Two stories of arched colonnades and the shade from the old trees give this space an air of peace and quiet; quite perfect for a monastery. (Picture is a gift from Mr. Victor Engelbert)

La Tenaza

Much is unknown about this feature attached to the Baluarte de las Bovedas along the city wall. Its name literally translates into "The Claw", because of its unusual shape.  A docking platform of sorts;  it has 5 cannon bays, 20 archer niches, 2 defined "rooms" and what looks like an amunition reservoir at its end. Today it is used as a stage for outdoor concerts. (Picture is a gift from Mr. Luis Becerra)

Callejon de Los Estribos

Anno Domini 1559. The monks of Santo Domingo noticed their convent listing towards the Calle de Nuestra Seņora de la Luz.  It was decided then to reinforce that side of the building adding this curious structures dubbed "Estribos" which kept the walls straight. The adjacent street subsequently took their name with a diferent adjective: "Callejon" because it became narrower.
